The New York State Police has identified the human remains that were found in Chemung back in September.
According to police, the remains belong to 22-year-old Elmira resident Matthew Barber, who went missing in 2020.
The skeletal remains were found along the Chemung River on Sept. 28. This was the second time part of Barber’s remains were found after a boater’s discovery in 2022.
State police confirmed the identification through a months-long DNA analysis and investigation.
