Binghamton University formally inaugurated Anne D’Alleva as its eighth president Friday, Oct. 2, during a ceremony at the Anderson Center’s Osterhout Theater in Vestal.

D’Alleva began leading the university in November 2025. SUNY Chancellor John B. King Jr. formally installed her during the ceremony, which brought together students, faculty, staff, alumni, university leaders and elected officials.

The inauguration served as the centerpiece of eight events marking Binghamton University’s 80th anniversary. The university traces its roots to Triple Cities College, where the first classes were held in 1946.

Binghamton University said D’Alleva used the occasion to emphasize the value of higher education and the institution’s role in research, teaching and public service. Her administration has launched a five-year strategic plan called Forward Together. The plan focuses on expanding the university’s impact, strengthening research and graduate education, deepening partnerships and building a stronger sense of belonging across campus.

Before coming to Binghamton, D’Alleva spent three years as provost and executive vice president for academic affairs at the University of Connecticut. An art historian, she also served seven years as dean of UConn’s School of Fine Arts.

The inauguration opened Binghamton’s Homecoming weekend, which continues through Sunday with campus activities and anniversary events.
