A benefit for Renewal Ranch will take place at the Owego VFW, located at 207 Main St. in Owego, on Saturday, Oct. 18, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The event will feature a meal of baked ziti, salad, bread and butter, and dessert, as well as 50/50 and basket raffles, which will help keep the ranch in operation. The cost of the event is a $15 donation.

Renewal Ranch, located at 28 Main St. in Owego, N.Y., opened in September 2024 as a community space, helping those who are homeless, displaced, or in housing transition.

The property, previously known as The Church Commons and Common Ground Community Center, was extended at that time for use by multiple organizations over the years by its board. Robert Henrich, the original founder, passed away in 2023, and it was his wish that ownership of the building be transferred to a religious organization with a similar mission. Renewal Ranch was selected and has been in operation since that time.

Their mission includes working with the community and local churches to provide people in need with the appropriate resources to renew their lives, whether they are neglected or abused, have experienced trauma, or have disabilities, addictions, or other situations.

Becky Hillman, President of Renewal Ranch, explained that the non-profit offers meals, basic clothing, showers, toiletries, hygiene items, and access to a laundry area.

Hillman explained that they are currently serving 20-30 dinners per day from the center, with support from CHOW of Binghamton and Catholic Charities. Dinner is offered Monday through Friday, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the ranch.

“We have helped hundreds who have walked through our doors,” said Hillman.

Partnering with various agencies, such as Fidelis Insurance, Mom’s Bus, and others, the ranch provides a variety of services.
