New state data show mixed public-safety trends in Binghamton through the first five months of this year. Overall crime fell nine percent compared with 2025, and property crime dropped 14 percent. Violent crime, however, rose 14 percent, driven by a 51-percent increase in aggravated assaults. Murders fell from five to one. The figures cover agencies participating in New York’s Gun Involved Violence Elimination initiative.
