BINGHAMTON, N.Y. — The Binghamton Police Department is on track to reach full staffing levels for the first time in decades.
Mayor Jared Kraham announced that 20 new police recruits recently began pre-academy training at City Hall. Once the group graduates in the fall, the department is expected to be fully staffed for the first time in roughly 20 years.
City officials say reaching full staffing would allow for expanded community policing efforts, including increased bike and foot patrols throughout neighborhoods.
While crime rates in Binghamton are currently at record lows, city leaders say efforts to improve public safety will continue, with a focus on supporting officers through training, equipment, and resources.
