Binghamton University will dedicate the newly named Couper-Owens Center for Community Schools during a ceremony Friday afternoon at the University Downtown Center.
The dedication is scheduled for 3 p.m. in room 120 of the downtown building at 67 Washington Street in Binghamton, according to a university media advisory issued Thursday.
The center's new name recognizes a seven-figure commitment from Robert C. Kochersberger and Janet C. Watrous. Binghamton University says the gift will help expand its work with local schools and community partners.
The Center for Community Schools connects university resources with school districts and community organizations. The newly announced support is intended to increase that local work and strengthen the partnerships built through the center.
Friday's ceremony will formally mark the Couper-Owens name and recognize the donors' commitment. The university did not provide a more specific dollar amount in its advisory, describing the gift as a seven-figure contribution.
The dedication is the second Binghamton University event scheduled in the city Friday. Earlier in the day, President Anne D'Alleva will discuss the university's Forward Together strategic plan at a Forum Speaker Series presentation at the DoubleTree on Water Street.
The Couper-Owens Center ceremony is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. at the University Downtown Center.
