Broome County announced the distribution of 2,000 boxes of food to residents across the county on Wednesday.

This effort was made possible through the partnership of the Food Bank of the Southern Tier, the Broome County Sheriff’s Office, and the Broome County Office of Emergency Services.

The food is being made available to rural households and local veterans through coordinated pickup sites throughout the community.

Each food box contains 15 shelf-stable items designed to help create complete, comforting meals, including pancake mix and syrup, spaghetti and sauce, and more.

“Food insecurity is real, especially for our seniors and veterans and rural areas,” said Sheriff Fred Akshar. “Despite these realities, I could not be prouder to stand shoulder to shoulder with our community partners and work together to help ensure our Broome County residents, no matter where they live, don’t go hungry.”
