BINGHAMTON, N.Y. — Broome County welcomed its newest U.S. citizens Wednesday as naturalization ceremonies returned to the courthouse.
A total of 25 individuals from 21 different countries were officially granted citizenship during the ceremony at the New York State Supreme Court in Binghamton.
The event marked a significant milestone for participants, granting them the right to vote and access federal benefits, among other opportunities.
Local officials highlighted the dedication and perseverance required to become a U.S. citizen, noting the process often takes years of effort and commitment.
For many, the ceremony also carried added meaning following a recent pause in naturalization events nationwide, which had left some families waiting for months.
Community leaders say the return of the ceremonies brings renewed optimism and relief, with hopes that more ceremonies will continue in the near future.
