Friday afternoon, Broome County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a 4-car crash.Authorities say a vehicle driven by 30-year-old Rebecca Crane of Sayre was traveling west on Main Street in the Town of Union when it hit 2 vehicles waiting at a stop light, and caused damage to a 4th vehicle. There were no injuries, but the Sheriff’s Office says Crane admitted she was speeding and distracted by her husband in the front seat, who wasn’t breathing.
The passenger, 33-year-old Gary Crane also of Sayre, had overdosed on heroin. Life-saving measures were taken. Authorities say Crane recovered from the overdose, and was taken to Wilson Hospital, where he was later discharged.
The Broome County Sheriff Drug Recognition Experts later determined that the driver, Rebecca Crane, was impaired by drugs at the time of the crash. Her one-year-old son was also in the vehicle during the crash, unrestrained in the back seat. He was uninjured, and turned over to a family member.
Crane was arraigned in the Town of Union Magistrate on multiple charges. She is being held without bail. The Broome County Sheriff’s Office says more charges are on the way.
