Binghamton man charged with attempted kidnapping at grocery store

A Binghamton man was arrested last week after he allegedly attempted to kidnap a child at a grocery store in Binghamton.

According to Binghamton Police, 37-year old Donald Beetlestone has been charged with attempted kidnapping, assault, forcible touching and endangering the welfare of a child.

Officers responded to the Binghamton Price Chopper at around 6:15 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 1 for a report of an assault and attempted kidnapping.

An investigation revealed that the 8-year-old victim was shopping with her mother and was alone in the produce section when Beetlestone allegedly approached her, struck her with a bottle and attempted to forcibly remove her from the store.

A female employee and a male customer intervened and physically restrained the suspect until police arrived.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
