A Binghamton towing company is facing a lawsuit for allegedly overcharging a customer.

According to WBNG-TV, the customer, Trenia Alston, claims her car was towed and brought to Wilcox & Sons Towing and Auto Repairs after she parked in a fire zone at the Weis Markets on Robinson Street.

The towing charges were originally $777 but were later upped to $1,400.

Attorney Ronald Benjamin says the actions violate local and state laws that limit charges that businesses, like towing companies, can issue.

Alston says she has not gotten her car back and is struggling to get around without it. Her lawyer is demanding her car be returned and that compensatory damages be awarded in the case.
