The investigation continues after a suspicious substance was received at the Social Security Office in Binghamton. The incident happened on Friday. According to police, patrols responded to 2 Court Street in Binghamton. A letter was received at the Social Security Office, by U.S. Mail. When opened by staff, it was found to contain a powdery substance and was deemed suspicious. An emergency response followed and the area of the building near the material was evacuated. The substance was processed, and secured by the Fire Department Hazmat team. On scene processing results showed the product presented no danger at the time. The substance was secured for further law enforcement investigation. No injuries were reported, no arrests have been made and the investigation is continuing. Similar occurrences have taken place at other Social Security Offices elsewhere within New York State in recent days.
