A Broome County man who worked as a school bus driver has been charged with rape following an investigation by the Broome County Sheriff’s Office.
According to police, 51-year-old Byron M. Bump of Colesville was arrested on Thursday following an investigation into reports of sexual abuse involving multiple juvenile victims.
Bump has been charged with rape in the first degree, a Class B felony, rape in the second degree, victim under 15 years old, a Class D felony, and attempted rape in the second degree, a Class E felony.
Bump was employed as a school bus driver for the Chenango Valley School District for six years. Sheriff’s detectives worked with school officials to safely take Bump into custody. Per school district policy, he was immediately placed on leave and removed.
