(Broome County, NY) – On Saturday, the Broome County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from the NYS Department of Transportation, extracted a 2001 Honda sedan involved in an accident earlier this month from the Chenango River.
The vehicle had been left submerged in the river since May 5 due to high water levels and unsafe currents.
After water levels receded and currents diminished, the Broome County Dive Team entered the Chenango River, located the vehicle and secured the recovery crane apparatus.
Earlier this month, the vehicle veered across the highway, stuck a guiderail just west of the Exit 3 on-ramp for I-88 westbound, and landed in the river.
The driver of the vehicle, Colby Degnan, was rescued from the river by Deputy Mark Hamilton.
