New York Gov. Kathy Hochul has directed flags at state buildings to be flown at half-staff today in honor of fallen Binghamton Firefighter John JR Gaudet.
Gaudet died while fighting a fire on Main Street in downtown Binghamton on Feb. 12.
Hochul called Gaudet a consummate public servant who devoted his life to the community he loved.
Gaudet was an 11-year veteran of the Binghamton Fire Department and also coached youth sports in the community.
Gaudet’s funeral is set for today at 11:30 am at the St. Thomas Aquinas Church.
A GoFundMe page has raised over $276,000 for Gaudet’s family. To donate, search Support for John’s Family After His Sacrifice at gofundme.com.
