State and federal elected officials have joined PA Gov. Tom Wolf in reminding Pennsylvanians to wear a mask to reduce the likelihood of the spread of COVID-19. Wolf said mask-wearing is required whenever people are outdoors.
“The order to make mask-wearing mandatory when leaving home was put in place to protect all Pennsylvanians from the spread of COVID-19,” Gov. Wolf said. “This simple practice, combined with social distancing, handwashing, and staying home if sick, is paramount to stopping this virus from infecting more people.“As we increasingly resume public activities in our commonwealth, we need to remain vigilant about taking precautions, especially wearing a mask that covers our noses and mouths while around other people,” said Wolf.
PA Secretary of Health Rachel Levine’s order requiring masks to be worn at all times in public, combined with scientific proof that masks help prevent the spread of COVID-19, are resonating with local elected officials, business owners and organizations.
“Thankfully, out of our 1,100 team members, we have only had seven infections and, more importantly, seven successful recoveries,” said Joseph F. Fasula, co-owner of Gerrity’s Supermarkets. “It is likely that all infections originated outside of the workplace with just one case of employee-to-employee transmission at work. Early on, we made the decision to pursue any sensible solution that would reduce the risk to our customers and to our team.”
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has advised people to wear a cloth mask to help slow the spread of COVID-19.
