Binghamton High School, Maine-Endwell, and countless others schools throughout the Southern Tier started their Wednesday morning with a silent protest. 17 minutes, to remember each of the 17 shooting victims of the school shooting in Parkland Florida one month ago. Students in Binghamton took time to walk out of classrooms if they chose to do so, and link arms with fellow students to display unity and honor those that were killed one month ago. Teachers and students stood in silence to remember the victims, while a bell rang and names of students were announced each minute for 17 minutes.Following National School Walkout Day will be 17 days of action — where students will be leading the way in promoting kindness. Students are also engaging in a hashtag campaign focusing on messages of advocacy and kindness.
