Your unwanted shoes can help make a difference in the lives of some American heroes. Now until the end of June, the Maine Memorial Elementary School Student Council will be collecting shoes in any condition for the Honor Flight Network. The group provides free trips for American Veterans to Washington D.C., where they are honored for their service and have the opportunity to see their war memorial. For every pound of shoes collected, money is donated to the organization to help make the trips possible. Shoes, boots, or sneakers can be dropped off at Maine Memorial during regular school hours.
