On Tuesday afternoon, at approximately 4:45pm, a Broome County Sheriff’s Deputy was patrolling on Route 79 near Piper Hill Road when he observed a vehicle traveling southbound drive off the right-hand shoulder and into a ditch. The vehicle continued down the ditch for approximately 600 feet before stopping. The deputy contacted the operator, identified as Kristen Oropallo, 33, of Susquehamna, Pa., who stated she was not injured. While speaking with Oropallo, the deputy observed a strong alcoholic beverage odor coming from her breath. Oropallo’s driving privileges in New York state had been suspended.

Oropallo was subsequently arrested for Driving While Intoxicated. The driver was transported to the Broome County Sheriff’s Office for further processing where she refused to submit to a breath test.
