On July 25 at approximately 12:18 p.m., New York State Police at Endwell and the Broome County Sheriff’s Department responded to a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle on Union Center Maine Highway (State Route 26) in the town of Union.
Responding troopers and deputies located Nellie L. Smith, age 87 of Vestal, who was pronounced deceased at the scene. An investigation revealed that Smith was attempting to cross the road when she was struck by a Toyota Sienna which was operated by a 74-year-old woman of Endicott, who was not identified. No reason was released by police why Smith was crossing the road.
The investigation continues.
