A suspect has been arrested in the stabbing of a Binghamton University student on Sunday night. The Broome County District Attorney says 20-year-old Michael Roque, also a student at Binghamton University, is charged with 2nd degree murder. Court documents say he stabbed 19-year-old Joao Souza multiple times in a room at Windham Hall, a student residence. A not guilty plea was entered by Roque’s public defender. Officials say Roque will be back in Vestal Town Court in the near future. The victim was a freshman engineering major from White Plains. Police continue to say this was not a random act, but there has been no information on why they believe that. Police have said that there will be an increased police presence on the campus for the foreseeable future. If you have any information about the investigation, you’re asked to call campus police at 607-777-2393.
