Crews have begun clearing trees in order to make way for a new intersection in downtown Binghamton.
The Department of Transportation will remove about 150 trees, but will plant 370 trees, hundreds of shrubs and more than 4,000 plants to replace them.
The $43 million dollar construction project will take place near the Visions Veterans Memorial Arena.
The project will create more green space and increase access to the Susquehanna River.
Construction on the intersection will begin this summer.
