The New York State Public Service Commission held a public hearing at Binghamton City Hall on Tuesday about the proposed NYSEG rate increases.
NYSEG is looking to raise its base electricity delivery revenue by 35 percent and its natural gas revenues by nearly 40 percent starting in the spring.
Residents and elected officials, including Congressman Josh Riley, spoke out against the proposed rate increases.
A similar public hearing will be held today in Ithaca at 1 and 6 pm at the Ithaca Town Hall.
