Owego considering raising parking ticket fees for first time in decades

The Village of Owego is proposing an increase to parking ticket fees for the first time in decades.

The current parking ticket fees are $10. The proposed change would increase that cost to $50 for vehicles that park too long in timed spots in the village.

Fees would be dropped to $25 if tickets are paid within five business days.

Owego Mayor Mike Baratta told WBNG-TV, “We did a bunch of research, and $50 is kind of on the low end of a parking fee. As far as the officer’s time at $10, we’re kind of definitely losing money for every parking ticket we write.”
