The Apalachin Fire Department responded to a fire in the area of Harnick Road and Bolles Hill Road on Tuesday morning.
According to a press release from the fire department, crews arrived on scene to find a large amount of smoke in the area. With the help of the Tioga County Sheriff’s Office and New York State Police, a 100-by-20 foot fire was located approximately a mile off the road.
Due to the remote location and difficult access, multiple additional fire units were requested.
Thanks to the quick response of mutual aid departments, the fire was quickly contained and deemed under control within an hour.
The fire is under investigation by the Department of Environmental Conservation.
The Apalachin Fire Department was assisted by the Campville, Owego and Southside fire departments.
