The well known Fireman Statue and Fountain at Tioga County’s Courthouse Square in Owego was dismantled Wednesday. The statue, and fountain which has not worked in several years, was picked up by Robinson Iron of Alabama. The company has been contracted to rebuild the 1913 statue. The company specializes in fountain restorations. They are the keeper of the original castings of the Baker monument. The Owego Hose Team has raised nearly $75,000 of the $115,000 it will take to have the monument refurbished and returned within 2-3 months. A fundraiser is currently in the works.
