The New York State Department of Transportation says I-86 eastbound will be shut down between Exit 65 in Owego and Exit 67 in Endicott starting at 9 p.m. Thursday. The closure will remain in effect until 6 a.m. Friday, while crews make guiderail repairs.

A detour will direct traffic off the highway at Exit 65 onto Route 434 eastbound, then Route 26 northbound in Vestal, before returning to I-86 at Exit 67.

The DOT reminds drivers to expect delays and allow extra travel time.

This work is weather-dependent and could be rescheduled if needed.

Drivers are also urged to slow down and stay alert in work zones. Speeding fines are doubled in work zones, and multiple violations can lead to a suspended license.
