A natural gas cylinder which was believed to be empty caused an explosion at Weitsman Recycling on Main Street in Owego on Tuesday afternoon.

According to owner Adam Weitsman, a customer brought in the natural gas cylinder and the gauge indicated that it was empty.

As workers were cutting another item, a spark caused the cylinder to explode and created a loud noise that was heard throughout the area.

One employee required medical evaluation following the incident. Weitsman told WBNG-TV that the employee was back to work on Wednesday.

There was reportedly no damage to the property.

The Owego Fire Department responded to the scene.
