One person was killed in a two-car crash on State Route 17 in Owego in the early morning hours on Tuesday.
According to the Tioga County Sheriff’s Office, the accident occurred just after 1 a.m. when a tractor-trailer was pulled over and parked on the shoulder of 17 West and was struck from behind by another vehicle.
The operator of the vehicle that struck the tractor-trailer succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the crash. The tractor-trailer driver was not injured in the accident.
The Tioga County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Tioga County Sheriff’s Office Crash Investigation and Drone Units; Apalachin Fire Department; New York State Police; New York State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit; and New York State DOT.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
