Owego man facing felony charge after allegedly assaulting state trooper

An Owego man is facing a felony charge after he allegedly assaulted a state trooper during a domestic dispute.

According to the new York State Police, 21-year-old Justin Netherton has been charged with felony assault in the second degree, which is a Class D felony, as well as misdemeanor counts of resisting arrest and criminal mischief.

The charges stem from an incident on Thursday, June 19th when troopers were called to a home on Halsey Valley Road in Spencer for a report of a domestic dispute.

Netherton allegedly damaged a vehicled that belonged to someone at the home. When troopers tried to question him, the suspect allegedly threw the beer can at a trooper, which caused injury.

According to police, Netherton continued to resist and kicked two troopers before he was placed into custody.
