A new nonprofit hub aimed at better serving Tioga County residents is officially opening its doors next week.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Neighborhood Depot is set for Monday at 10:30 a.m. at 146 Central Ave. in downtown Owego.
The 16,000-square-foot facility brings together several nonprofits under one roof, including Tioga United Way, Tioga County Rural Ministry, Cornell Cooperative Extension, and Racker.
“The Neighborhood Depot is a nonprofit hub that provides a wide variety of services to the community under one roof,” said Bob Brazill, director of community relations and development for Racker and spokesperson for the project. “This project addresses many needs for our community in a central location in Owego.”
The building is also optimal in case of emergencies. It sits above the 500-year floodplain, includes an industrial generator, and can serve as a response center during times of crisis with a large conference room, shower, commercial kitchen, and food pantry.
Following the ribbon cutting, the public is invited to tour the new space during an open house from 1 to 3 p.m.
