A tragic accident claimed the life of decorated Owego racer Conner Sellars last Friday at the age of 26.
Born in Sayre, Sellars was a 2017 graduate of Owego Free Academy whose lifelong love of racing led to racking up 300 wins and nearly 30 championships as part of the New York State Microd Association.
In 2018, he earned NASCAR Whelen Track Champion at the Chemung Speedrome and was able to celebrate his achievements alongside some of the biggest names in the sport at the NASCAR banquet in Charlotte, North Carolina.
His latest venture was in dirt racing, where he competed on tracks across the region.
Additional details are not known regarding the accident that claimed his life.
A funeral for Sellars will be held this morning at the First Church of the Nazarene in Owego, with a burial in St. Patrick’s Cemetery to follow.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Owego Emergency Squad, PO Box 22 in Owego, in Connor’s memory.
