The Tioga County Legislature is looking for help from the state to demolish a long-abandoned commercial building in Owego.
Legislators have approved a request for $200,000 in state funding to demolish the former Pizza Hut at 81 Hickories Park Road. The request also includes funding to demolish a dilapidated home on Railroad Ave. in Berkshire.
The Tioga County Land Bank is still in deliberations on what to do with the former Pizza Hut property once the site is cleared. However, according to the Morning Times, a new apartment complex is a possibility.
If the county receives the state funding, there would be no local financial match required to demolish the properties.
