Ithaca Officer Hears Shots near Downtown, Looking for Suspect

On 05/11/19 at approximately 0206 a.m., an Ithaca Police Officer on patrol heard the sound of numerous gunshots coming from the 200 block of South Cayuga Street. Tompkins County Dispatch advised that a 911 caller had stated there had been a shooting in a parking lot at that location.


Ithaca officers responded to the area and began to speak with witnesses and gather information. No injuries were reported. The IPD Crime Scene Unit responded and processed the scene, which encompassed a very large area. At this time the investigation is continuing. Suspect information is still being developed at this time.

Regarding this incident, Ithaca Police Chief Tyler said it was troubling to hear about this latest incident so close to downtown where there were potentially lots of people out and about. It’s fortunate nobody got hurt.
