OWEGO, N.Y. — Village elections are taking place today across several Tioga County communities, with polls open from noon to 9 p.m.

In the Village of Owego, voting is being held at 22 Elm Street. Members of the “Better Owego Together” party are running unopposed to retain their seats, including Mayor Michael Baratta, First Ward Trustee Terry Van Hall, Second Ward Trustee Kathy Hankey, and Third Ward Trustee Fran VanHousen.

Hankey was appointed to the board after the seat previously held by Charles Plater became vacant.

Rod Marchewka is seeking another term as village clerk-treasurer, and Dave Boland is running to continue serving as village judge.

According to village officials, no formal challenges were filed. However, Owego resident Doug Weeks has announced a write-in campaign for the First Ward trustee seat.

Village elections are also underway today in Waverly. Polls are open from noon to 9 p.m. at Waverly Village Hall on Ithaca Street.

Voters in Waverly are deciding several trustee races, including three two-year terms and two one-year terms, one of which is currently vacant.

Meanwhile, the Village of Candor will not hold elections this year, with its next cycle scheduled for 2027.

Additional elections are expected in Newark Valley, though residents are encouraged to contact the village clerk’s office for specific details.
