Village elections will take place Wednesday, March 18, across several Tioga County communities, with polls open from noon to 9 p.m.
In the Village of Owego, voting will be held at 22 Elm Street. Members of the “Better Owego Together” party are running unopposed to retain their seats. The slate includes Mayor Mike Baratta, First Ward Trustee Terry Van Hall, Second Ward Trustee Kathy Hankey, and Third Ward Trustee Fran VanHousen.
Hankey was appointed to the board after the seat previously held by Charles Plater became vacant.
Rod Marchewka is seeking another term as village clerk-treasurer, and Dave Boland is running to continue serving as village judge.
According to Mayor Baratta, the village did not receive any petitions challenging the slate. However, Owego resident Doug Weeks has announced he plans to run as a write-in candidate for the First Ward trustee seat currently held by Van Hall.
Village elections will also take place in Waverly on Wednesday, March 18. Polls will be open from noon to 9 p.m. at Waverly Village Hall, located at 32 Ithaca Street.
Voters in Waverly will choose candidates for three trustee seats with two-year terms, along with two one-year trustee seats. One of the one-year seats is currently held by Lyman Wage, while the other is vacant.
Meanwhile, the Village of Candor will not hold elections this year. Candor operates on a different cycle, with its next village election scheduled for 2027.
Additional elections are expected in Newark Valley, though polling details were not confirmed at the time of publication. Residents can contact the village clerk’s office at 607-642-8686 for more information.
