The Chemung County Sheriff’s Office has identified the man who passed away during a car accident in Horseheads on Wednesday morning.
According to police, 61-year-old Michael Vargo was unresponsive at the scene of the accident — which occurred on Old Ithaca Road at around 5:35 a.m. on Wednesday — and was pronounced deceased upon arrival at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center.
Vargo’s pickup truck crashed into the side of the Interstate Batteries Distributors, a car battery store in Horseheads.
Police said the victim suffered a cardiac event while driving the truck, causing it to go off the road and into the building.
The Chemung County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Village of Horseheads Police Department, Erway’s Ambulance, and Town and Country Fire Department.
