The Cortland County Sheriff’s Office have been investigating multiple complaints regarding a phone scam by an unknown person identifying themselves as “Deputy Mark Davis”. The individual, using a local phone number, is telling individuals they have active warrants for their arrest for not appearing before a Grand Jury. For a fee or “money pack” payment, the warrant would be voided. Officers would like to warn the public not provide personal information over the phone. Police agencies also do not solicit funds to void or clear up arrest warrants. If anyone feels they are the victim of a phone scam, or the victim of identity theft, they can contact the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office at 607-758-5599.
