The New York State Police at Troop C are warning area residents of a phone scam, where the caller claims to be with NYSEG. Troopers recently have received several complaints from businesses where scammers threaten to cut service unless it’s immediately paid using a prepaid debit card. The scam also provides a call back number with a recorded greeting similar to that of NYSEG. Troopers warn residents never to trust anyone who asks you to make a payment using a prepaid card. If you have any questions about your bill, contact NYSEG directly.
