The Athens Borough Police Department arrested a 36-year-old man who allegedly drove his car into the Athens Guthrie Clinic on Friday.
According to police, Steven D. Couplin has been charged with DUI Highest Rate of alcohol, a grade-one misdemeanor. He’s also been charged with recklessly endangering another person, accident involving damage, driving without a license and several other related charges.
The accident occurred at around 11 p.m. on Friday. A silver jeep drove into the Athens clinic and left major damage to the building’s east side, next to the front door. The vehicle left the scene following the crash.
The vehicle was found by members of the Sayre Borough Police Department on North Street in Athens shortly after the crash.
Couplin was in the driver’s seat of the vehicle when police arrived. He was arrested without incident.
Couplin became agitated at the hospital and refused to take a blood test. He also became aggressive at the Athens Borough Police Station and was put into handcuffs and ankle shackles.
Police said a Guthrie employee was inside the building at the time of the crash.
Couplin was remanded to the Bradford County Jail on $100,000 bail.
