The Athens Area School District placed Harlan Rowe Middle School and Lynch-Bustin Elementary School on lockdown on Friday afternoon.

At around 12:20 p.m. today, the Athens Township Police Department received a report of a man walking down Elmira Street near the schools dressed in orange camouflage, carrying a hunting rifle with a scope.

The schools were placed on lockdown as a result of the incident.

Athens Township Police responded to the area and located the man, who was returning from deer hunting in the Round Top Park area. He said he got a ride to the hunting area this morning but had to walk home.

Officers were able to determine that there was no threat to the public, and the lockdown was lifted.
