The Athens Township Police Department has released details on a fatal car accident that happened in December.
According to police, a pedestrian was struck by a car on Elmira Street, just north of Lockhart Street at around 6:17 p.m. on Dec. 15.
Officers performed life-saving measures before the victim was transported to the Robert Packer Hospital, but he would later pass away from his injuries.
The victim has been identified as 54-year-old Sayre resident Earl V. Fassett.
The driver of the vehicle involved attempted to avoid striking the victim.
Officers obtained security footage from a nearby area showing the victim stepping out from an unlit center turning lane into the north bound traffic lane in an attempt to cross without checking for oncoming traffic which led to him being struck by the vehicle.
No charges have been filed.
