A homeless woman was arrested on Tuesday after she allegedly broke into an abandoned home in Athens with her dogs and started a fire without proper ventilation.

According to police, 32-year-old Ashley K. Patton has been charged with felony counts of burglary and criminal trespass as well as misdemeanor criminal mischief.

After the Athens Borough Police Department put out the fire, carbon monoxide was detected at 20 parts per million in the living room. The carbon monoxide level was dangerous for both Patton and her dogs.

Police said Patton admitted that she was not allowed in the home and that she was burning items that didn’t belong to her as well as wood from outside.

She had been staying in the home for about a week.

Patton was remanded to the Bradford County Jail on $40,000 bail.
