Sayre Borough and Athens Township Police are investigating a reported “shooting” on Vista Drive in Sayre Friday afternoon. The call came in around 3:30 PM. First police units on scene located a person down just inside the single-family dwelling’s front door. Police quickly determined the scene was safe, and cleared Greater Valley EMS to the scene who had been staging nearby. The patient, who appeared to be an elderly person according to our reporter on scene, was quickly loaded onto a stretcher and taken to Robert Packer Hospital with wounds to the chest and abdomen according to scanner reports.
The 911 caller was standing in the driveway and on the phone with dispatch when police arrived on scene. Scanner reports indicate that the alleged shooter did not leave the scene.
In an earlier statement to Choice 102, “Everyone is accounted for. There is no threat to the public. Incident is under active investigation at this time. Person responsible for the shooting is being detained and is cooperating with the Athens Twp Police,” according to Athens Township Police Chief Roger Clink.
A construction worker working outside at a neighboring home on Vista Drive reported hearing two gunshots shortly before responders arrived.
Two additional GVEMS ambulances also responded to the scene. One left the scene without transporting anyone. The third ambulance appeared to treat someone at the scene, but its unknown at this time if anyone else was transported to the hospital. According to Athens township police, the male “succumbed to his wounds” later at the hospital.
It’s unclear who the parties involved are, or how any of them may be related, or known to one another, if at all. We will provide updates on this situation when they become available from authorities. Athens Township Police said that no further information will be released at this time, but that anyone who may have any information about the case should contact them.
