Residents in Sayre Borough are being cautioned about a new phone scam where callers impersonate police officers, sheriffs, or detectives.
The scammers are even using technology to make their number appear as the actual police department. Victims are told they owe fines or missed court, then pushed to pay with gift cards, wire transfers, or cryptocurrency.
Sayre Borough Police emphasize they will never demand payment over the phone or request those types of payments.
Anyone receiving a suspicious call should hang up and report it as fraud. To confirm if a call is legitimate, contact Sayre Borough Police at 570-888-2233.
