Voters in Athens Township to decide contested races today

Voters will hit the polls today in the Twin Tiers with several contested races in Athens Township.

Four candidates are running for two spots on the Athens Township Board of Supervisors.

Republican Bonnie Petruschak is looking to retain her seat on the board. She is running for a six-year term against Democrat Rosemary Firestine.

Democrat Michael Freeland, who was appointed to the board earlier this year, is looking to keep his seat. He is running against Republican challenger Paul Kelley.

There is also a contested race for Athens School Board Region 2, which includes Athens Township and Sheshequin.

Dustin Bishop, Karen Bradley and George “Jay” White are running for two open seats on the school board.

Polling places are open from 7 am to 8 pm in Pennsylvania, while New York residents can vote from 6 am to 9 pm.
