Senator Fred Akshar has announced 12 funding grants to support local volunteer fire departments and emergency services squads. The grants will total $155,000. The grants will go toward a variety of projects depending on the needs of each department. Projects range from rescue equipment upgrades and replacements to new communications technology. Among the organizations receiving funds are: the Owego Fire Department, the Johnson City Fire Department, Maine Fire District #1, the Weltonville Fire Company, and the West Corners Fire Department.
