The New York State Department of Corrections and Community Service has announced the death of a second Elmira Correctional Facility inmate who was a convicted child sex offender.
According to WETM-TV, 59-year-old William Brand was pronounced dead at 2:52 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 10. He was serving a 10-year sentence for a crime against a child.
Child rapist and murderer Robert Fisher was found dead on the same night an hour before Brand was pronounced dead.
Fisher pleaded guilty to the rape and murder of a child in 2023. He was sentenced to 20 years to life in state prison.
The Chemung County Medical Examiner’s Office is investigating the cause of death in both cases.
