A house in North Towanda Township was destroyed by a fire early Friday morning and two people, including a firefighter, sustained minor injuries during the incident.
According to the Bradford County Department of Public Safety, the fire broke out at around 3 a.m. on Sugar Creek Road. Upon arrival, firefighters found a heavily involved structure fire.
Three people and two dogs had already escaped the fire. One person had minor injuries and was immediately transported to the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre.
Due to fire intensity and water supply needs, a third alarm was requested, along with the Bradford County Rehabilitation Unit. Due to the narrow one-way road, crews had to maneuver trucks to complete water supply/tanker operations, but were able to do so successfully.
Western Alliance EMS was requested to transport an injured firefighter for evaluation who has since been treated and released.
The American Red Cross is assisting the family.
The North Towanda Fire Department was assisted by the Towanda, Athens Borough, Ulster-Sheshequin, Smithfield, Wysox and Troy Fire Departments and Monroe Hose Company along with Guthrie EMS.
