More than $84.7 million dollars has provisionally been awarded to internet providers across the 23rd Senatorial District to expand broadband access to areas without access or that are underserved.
The list of recipients includes the Central Bradford Progress Authority, Claverack Communications, Comcast and Verizon. The funding requires a match from the applicants.
State Sen. Gene Yaw (R-23), who announced the awards Friday, highlighted the opportunities the funding will provide.
“This funding will help bridge the digital divide and ensure our communities are well-connected to opportunities for economic growth, access to education, improved healthcare and everyday life.” Yaw said. “I’m incredibly pleased to see this significant investment in equitable broadband service in our region.”
The funding is provided from an $800 million allocation through the federal Broadband Equity, Access and Deployment Program.
